Pack 289’s Fossil Quest
Join Pack 289 for a Ranger-Led Fossil Quest at Fossil Beach!
On Saturday, May 16th, we’ll meet at Westmoreland State Park’s Visitor Center at 9:00 AM to kick off a hands-on fossil hunting adventure led by a park ranger. After a short hike down to Fossil Beach, Scouts and families will learn how ancient fossils ended up here, explore safe and responsible collection methods, and use provided tools to search for shark teeth, shells, and more.

Meetup: 9:00 AM at the Visitor Center (145 Cliff Road, Montross, VA 22520)

Hike: Short walk to the beach (wear sturdy shoes)

Cost: $10 per vehicle for parking

Tools: Provided by the park

Dress: Weather-appropriate clothing and sun protection recommended

Program Length: About 1–1.5 hours, with optional extended fossil hunting time
This program is free and open to the public, but Pack 289 will enjoy a dedicated ranger-led experience tailored to our Scouts. Younger siblings (including “Dragons”) and family members are welcome!
